Walter Johnson one of the pioneers of in-line skating in the Detroit area. Founder and owner of the Detroit Blading Company Walter is someone with passion, fire and a commitment for the work they do.
Walter received a B.A from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1975. In 1999 Walter attended the Detroit Entrepreneurial Institute to sharpen his business skills and was selected as a “2002 Detroit Entrepreneurial Spirit” award winner at the annual awards dinner. Walter also plays the role of Giffy Giraffe, a giraffe on in-line skates in a youth stage play “Supa Dupa Baby‘s Anti Drug Anti Violence Tour”.
Television, radio and newspaper reporters have sought out Walter to tell his story of how to be safe, have fun and loose weight while in-line skating. Walter is also known as the “Helmet Guy,” who helps the Detroit Rotary find children to give helmets and demonstrates how to wear them and still look “cool.”
